How long does it take to drive the Transfagarasan?

Transfagarasan road is 92 km and is crossing Fagaraș Mountains. The speed limit is 40km/h, so simple math is telling us that 2,5 hours should be enough. But it’s not. Actually, driving this road is not easy peasy. It’s full of serpentines and switchbacks- just have a look below. But this is also part of its charm and that’s why the drivers love it. Plus you want to stop a few times for photos, shopping or a hike. Also it depends if you are planning to go on weekend or during the week. I don’t recommend weekend or public holidays as it gets really crowded.

Please don’t forget that Transfagarasan is the second highest road in Romania and it’s not open all year long. Before hitting the road check if Transfagarasan is open.
If it’s not already open, check here when it will be open for circulation.
